Local Festival(Hikawa-sai)

🏮 Akasaka Hikawa-sai: A Long-standing Tradition

In the heart of Akasaka, we hold a special festival every other year called the Hikawa-sai. This tradition has been carefully preserved since the Edo era.

Many of our historical Dashi (festival floats) were lost over time due to earthquakes and the war. However, it is truly moving to see how the local community has come together to rebuild them, restoring our history piece by piece. Each district also contributes its own Mikoshi to the celebration.

🕯️ Carrying the Light

My role is to carry the Takabari-Cho-chin (high-pole lanterns), leading the way for the Mikoshi and the Dashi floats.

The procession starts in the early morning and continues until dusk (or sometimes even until dawn). While it is a very long and physically demanding day, the feeling is incredibly rewarding.
