One summer, I also applied for the Kabuki-Taiken (Summer program to offer experience Kabuki for elementary student) offered by the National Theater of Japan. I was really fortunate to be cast as Oisono Tora, a high-ranking courtesan. What made this experience truly special was that a professional Kabuki actor was our teacher.

I wore a magnificent wig and a gorgeous costume, but the total weight was nearly 10 kilograms. It was so heavy that I couldn’t even stand up without the help of the Kurogo (stage assistants dressed in black).

I was featured in the English edition of The Yomiuri Shimbun! I am the second person from the right in the photo. It was such an honor to be part of this article.

Standing on the National Theater stage in such a heavy, authentic costume, guided by the expertise of a professional actor, was an unforgettable experience. It gave me a much deeper understanding of the physical strength and discipline required for traditional Japanese stagecraft
